High Tea at the West End

Ah – High Tea! That splendid Scottish tradition of a Sunday afternoon. Hmm, what to have to follow your delicious fish & chips? Cream scone? Slice of lemon drizzle cake?

We’re delighted to bring you High Tea at the West End, starting this Sunday 14th April, from 4 – 6pm.  A selection of main courses, accompanied by bread & butter and tea or coffee, followed by a delicious range of home-made sweet treats. All-in price of £12.50 pp (£9 for 12s and under).

Walk-ins are welcome on the day, but it could be busy so give us a ring on 01333 311 587 or 07568 318 002, or easier still, pop into the bar to book a table.

See you on Sunday!

New chef! New kitchen!

Spring has sprung… and our kitchen is open again! After a long winter break, we’re thrilled to bring you our new menu, delivered to you by our new chef Graeme.  A Pittenweem local, Graeme’s got huge experience managing kitchens in the East Neuk and across the UK.  Particular stand-outs are his signature dish of seafood chowder, and his beer-battered haddock and chips – super-light and crispy. Other nibbles such as tempura king prawns and piri-piri chicken strips are great dishes to share – with everything battered, seasoned and griddled to order.

See our menu page for full details. Much on our menu is free of gluten-containing ingredients (or can be adjusted to be so), and we have a nice selection of vegetarian options and a 100% vegan burger.

Over the next few weeks we’ll get photos of our dishes posted. I’ll keep you posted!

Kitchen open again

Well the Pittenweem art festival was the proverbial baptism of fire.  Goodness me! But it got us up and running in the kitchen and after a week’s recuperation we’ve got the kitchen open again. We had a lot of lovely comments during the festival and we’re continuing the fairly short menu we started with, and will develop that as we go along.

We’re pleased to be sourcing much of our produce from local suppliers: oatcakes from Adamson’s across the road from us; wonderful haddock and smoked haddock from J&A Imrie in St Monan’s; our meat is from Minick’s, including some splendid Balcaskie sirloin we served up for a private party during the festival – I’ll get that in again soon: delicious!; ice cream from Jannetta’s in St Andrews.  And of course bread straight from the kitchen here.  Oonagh’s mum’s original Irish soda bread recipe being the current loaf out the oven.

Our current kitchen opening hours are:

Thursday & Friday: dinner  6-9pm

Saturday: lunch 12.30 – 2.30 and dinner 6-9pm

Sunday: lunch 12:30 – 2:30

We will be doing traditional Sunday lunch in due course but for now it’s the regular menu on Sunday.

We’re fairly small so it’s always a good idea to reserve – 01333 311 587, or pop in to check availability.

Look forward to seeing you soon!

A lot’s been happening…

Hello everyone – It’s been a while since our last post, and a lot’s been going on outside and in.  Just to note firstly: the pub will be closed Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th this week while we strip and varnish the floors in the cocktail bar and restaurant. We can’t wait to lift those old carpets and spruce up the lovely floorboards! With the dust and noise though the doors will be shut.  Open again on Friday.

You’ll have seen the fantastic job Jonny Yates and David Budd have done on the exterior painting.  What a transformation!  A huge thanks to Jonny and David.  We’ll post some photos once the signwriter has been in this week and completed the gable-end lettering, and we’ve got our lovely new signs to hang from the corner and above the South Loan entrance.

Next up – the beer garden!  We’ve been busy tidying it all up after Jock’s grand job of “deforesting” the whole space.  The tables are in, parasols are fitted, and some lovely warm blankets are due to arrive this week to keep you warm! All being well, the beer garden will be open this weekend.

“When’s the food starting?” we hear you all ask!  You might have heard us describing the hoops we’ve been jumping through on gas and electricity supply.   That’s held things up no end.  But we’re happy to say we think we’ve got it sorted at last. The kitchen is now ordered and we’re planning to dish up some tasty bites fairly soon – should be later in June. Watch this space – we’ll definitely keep you posted on this one.

That’s about it for now. Thanks to all our regulars and new visitors, and especially to those who’ve popped in for the first time in a wee while. It’s great to see you all.

See you soon.

The Annual Battle!

Roll up, roll up! It’s that time again. Scotland vs. England. Will we bring it to them? Or go down to another ‘brave defeat’? My heart says one way, my guess for the West End Bar Six Nations Sweepstake says another! Come in, enjoy a Guinness, Tennents, Addlestones, or Fruit Shoot, and stick your name down with your guess of the winning score! See you there!
